Celebrating Random Days with Meggiemoggymoo

The internet and in particular social media can be a pretty toxic place at times, negative, judgemental, cruel even but like the humans who populate it there are also the wonderful, fun and smile-inducing places to be found too and one of these is MeggieMoggyMoo’s Instagram’s feed.

As a self-described vintage obsessed, jam making, cross stitching, keeper of five cats, two kids and a beloved, MMMoo, as I’ll call her for short, has a particularly delightful theme floating through her feed and it’s one that is very in keeping with what I hope to do through Happy Barnet.

MMMoo celebrates random days. What does that mean? Well, simply she has made a point of looking out for those weird and sometimes wonderful “international day of the …” and celebrating them. From Wear Red Day (February 14th) and Houseplant Appreciation Day (January 10th) to Bubble Bath Day (8th Janaury) and even the rather approprately timed Panic Day (March 9th).

It seems the celebrations have just started this year but only a couple of months in and it’s becoming one of my favourite things to look out for when clicking on that “new posts” button. What will it be today? National Shortbread Day (6th January), Apricot Appreciation Day (9th January), Yorkshire Pudding Day (2nd February) or something more serious such as International Women’s Day (8th March) and Be Heard Day (7th March).

In a world full of scary headlines and an internet full of scary updates it’s lovely to take a moment just to be reminded of many of the little joys in life. Yes there are serious days to acknowledge but these are done in such a way that it’s still brings a feeling of warmth and positivity. For example, on Panic Day, MMMoo shared her own experience of suffering from Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and the image of the day was a useful guide to ways you could spot anxiety in yourself and others.

We’re only on day 71 of the year as I write this and as it’s a leap year that means we’ve got 295 days left to celebrate, no pressure MeggieMoggyMoo!

Can’t wait to see what else you get up to with your celebrations of random days. Thanks for making the internet and my world a little brighter and happier!
